09 Apr Apothic Red Wine
This intriguing red wine takes its name from Apotheca, the mysterious place where wine was blended and stored in 13th Century Europe. The Apothic Red has flavours of dark cherry, vanilla and mocha and is a blend of four grapes; Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Zinfandel offers bold dark fruit flavours and spicy notes, which are complemented by the soft mouth-feel of Merlot. The Syrah adds layers of smooth blueberry, while the Cabernet Sauvignon delivers ripe fruit flavours. This unique red wine is a well-balanced wine with nice, seductive vanilla, mocha coffee and sweet berry fruits. It is sweeter than most red wines I have tasted but I think this sweetness adds to the flavour and uniqueness of the wine. It is less bitter than other red wines so may be ideal for non-red wine drinkers. This Apothic Red makes a wonderful accompaniment to dark chocolate desserts and I thoroughly enjoyed this wine with my decadent bitter chocolate torte.
I also loved the presentation of the brand and packaging as it is both bold and strong which accentuates the bold character of the wine. I would definitely recommend the Apothic Red as it is a smooth, bold, rich red wine that is absolutely delicious.
