Salon du Chocolat

A wonderful event dedicated to chocolate

01 Nov Salon du Chocolat

When I was given the opportunity to attend the Gala event of Salon du Chocolat, I was both excited and very intrigued. Being a huge lover of chocolate, the idea of being in a room full of the delectable delights was my idea of the perfect night out. Then when I read about the Salon du Chocolat fashion show, I was absolutely fascinated. Outfits, inspired by and made from chocolate were sure to both entertain and captivate me. How right I was.

Salon du Chocolat was a spectacular finish to a wonderful line up of Chocolate Week activities that took place 18th-20th October 2013 at National Hall, Olympia.

Visitors to Salon du Chocolat were treated to exhibits from the UK’s top chocolate companies and exciting international brands. They were also treated to demonstrations, talks, interactive workshops and spectacular sculptures.

I attended the Gala event on Friday 18th October. This event allowed me to visit the exhibition and talk to many of the best chocolate companies’ from the UK and abroad. Exhibitors included Artisan du Chocolat, Paul a Young, Rococo, Hotel Chocolat, Paul Wayne Gregory, Marc Demarquette, Divine, Prestat, Lindt, Valrhona, Pralus and Bonnat.

The exhibition was absolutely wonderful. I could taste some of the new recipes from my favourite chocolatiers as well as try new treats from other professionals in the chocolate field.

One of my favourite parts was seeing the different sculptures made from chocolate. Some of these definitely had the wow factor. All the sculptures I saw were absolutely wonderful.

Unfortunately during the Gala Event I did not see any demonstrations or interactive workshops. I am sure these would have been very interesting to see and visitors during the day would have been able to see these.

The highlight of the event was definitely the Salon’s world famous fashion show. This show had stunning couture outfits made and inspired by chocolate. They were designed by the countries top chocolatiers and some of the UK’s amazing fashion designers. The outfits were previewed at the Gala event during the fashion show and were then displayed throughout the event.

All the outfits were absolutely stunning. Some were made of pieces of chocolate and some were inspired by chocolate. One outfit also had real cupcakes presented on the skirt of a dress.

One of my favourite pieces was called ‘English Rose’ by Mark Tilling of Squires Kitchen. This was a dress made from chocolate. The dark brown dress with rose detail in both brown and pink was absolutely gorgeous. I also loved the chocolate dress by Lindt Master Chocolatier & Lauren Smith and Paul Wayne Gregory as this too was an absolutely stunning design.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Salon du Chocolat Gala Event and was extremely pleased that this show came to London. I would definitely recommend visiting Salon du Chocolat if you ever get a chance, especially if you are a lover of chocolate. A truly fantastic experience.
